If you came of age in the ’90s like I did, then you remember Robin Givens from ABC sitcom “Head of the Class!” And then her star power surged when she married and later divorced world heavyweight boxing champion Mike Tyson. My favorite role of hers is when she portrayed the brash and boss chick Jacqueline Broyer in the 1992 classic movie “Boomerang” starring Eddie Murphy. She had Eddie Murphy’s character Marcus Graham sprung in a way that women are typically portrayed as sprung – sniveling and sappy when the object of affection suddenly withdraws the “affection!”

(I’ve said (typed) it before, and I will say (type) it again the ’90s was the golden age of black cinema and television although black cinema and television seems to be heating up right now!) But since then, I haven’t heard that much about her. Have you? I see she is on that show “Riverdale,” but I don’t watch show. Do you? Well, if you want to see the original mean girl, tune into tonight at 9:00 p.m. ET to watch “Saints & Sinners” on Bounce TV!

“Real Housewives of Atlanta” Kenya Moore, a real life mean girl turned reluctant reality star now that she is actually a wife, will also star in tonight’s episode of “Saints & Sinners” although you can probably see her on Round Two of RHOA’s Season 10 Reunion show coming on tonight as well.

Saints & Sinners” tells the story of the conflicts among the members of a Baptist church in small-town Georgia. The plot consists of greed, corruption and murder.

Season 3 of “Saints & Sinners” sees all hell breaking loose in Cypress, Georgia. A vicious, no-holds-barred battle for Greater Hope Baptist Church erupts between the old guard, Mayor Johnson (Vanessa Bell Calloway) and Rex (Clifton Powell), and the young bloods Levi (Christian Keyes) and Jabari (J.D. Williams) while Kendrick (Tray Chaney) tries to survive a life-threatening predicament to expose his grandmother, Leona (Donna Biscoe who is my old taebo instructor!) as a killer. Miles (Keith Robinson, who I went to school with at the University of Georgia) is once again caught between his wife and his one-time mistress, Christie (Jasmine Burke) as Tamara’s (Demetria McKinney) wild allegations threaten to put Christie away forever. Detective St. Charles (Afemo Omilami) has his hands full with chaos and crime running rampant in Cypress in season three. “Saints & Sinners” is produced in partnership with Swirl Film’s Eric Tomosunas (Undershepard, 35 and Ticking).

Below is a video clip from tonight’s episode!

Hello World,

This dress is similar to the one the would-be bride wanted to wear on Aug. 10…

My new hubby and I are still adjusting to married life and moving in together so keep us in your thoughts and prayers…

So on to today’s blog posts, there are many stories that have caught my attention, and I thought I would list them so that you can be informed and entertained as well if you haven’t heard of them already…

Of course, people traveled from all around to our nation’s capital to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the March on Washington where the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. delivered his impassioned and ultimately prophetic “I Have A Dream” speech. On Wednesday, Aug. 28, the actual anniversary of the march, President Obama will speak at 3 p.m., the actual hour that King delivered his speech, from the Lincoln Memorial. Also, Bounce TV will be airing the television premiere of “King: A Filmed Record…Montgomery to Memphis” on Wednesday at 7 p.m. EST and 6 p.m. CST. “This rarely-seen 1970 film features historical footage of the event and includes appearances by Sidney Poitier, Diahann Carroll, Bill Cosby, James Earl Jones, Ruby Dee, Harry Belafonte, Paul Newman, Marlon Brando, Charlton Heston and other ardent supporters and friends of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. many of whom marched alongside him,” according to a press release. For more information about march commemoration activities, please go to 50thanniversarymarchonwashington.com. Also, go to MSNBC.com for photographs of this weekend’s events.

And some other stories caught my attention as well…

Antoinette Tuff and would-be school shooter…

2. If you live in Atlanta, you have heard of the heroism of Antoinette Tuff, a bookkeeper at Ronald E. McNair Discovery Learning Academy in DeKalb County, whom God used to talk a would-be school shooter out of using his AK-47 to kill and or harm her and the children…She credits her faith in God for enabling her to soothe this troubled young man and help him to turn himself in…To see an interview with Tuff, please go to wsbtv.com…this is evidence that prayer needs to return to school…

3. This story really caught my attention since it is about a wedding that was supposed to happen on Aug. 10, the date that I got married, but didn’t…After seeing the would-be bride’s scanty wedding dress, the pastor refused to marry her…When I saw a version of the dress, I agree with his actions…why marry in a house of God, when you look like a woman of ill repute? To read the story, go to americapreachers.com.

4. Americapreachers.com has been to the “go to” site lately…I recently read a story on the website about a pastor who refuses to allow his membership to wear weaves in church…Wow, what a controversial edict! To read the story, go to americapreachers.com.

5. Mother of slain, unarmed teenager Trayvon Martin, Sybrina Fulton collaborated with a gospel artist to release a song “Joy in the Morning” to encourage people whom have lost loved ones due to gun violence. To read the story, go to huffingtonpost.com.

6. I’m a huge proponent of eating healthy foods so this story about a United Methodist pastor who became a vegetarian after visiting a farm sanctuary caught my attention…”Eating in Truth and Action” at humanesociety.org.

7. I saw this story on TheOldBlackChurch.blogspot.com. A church in the D.C. area brought in an Atlanta dj to hype up morning worship…I can dig it…To see a video about the story, go to washingtonpost.com.

What has been on your radar lately?

Any thoughts?

Hello World,

Ever since the “The Real World,” debuted in 1992, the year that I graduated from high school, I’ve been a fan of reality show television…I must say in recent years, I have been shocked by the depth of debauchery, depravity and downright “dumbness” of the reality shows that are allowed to be on television. Still, I do love the concept of seeing real people in real situations.

For the longest time, the religious world was absent from reality show programming, but over the last few years, we are finding a way to be included in this cultural phenomenon.

In January, “The Sisterhood,” which featured the wives of Atlanta pastors, debuted on TLC. While the show generated a lot of heated conversation inside and outside of religious circles, the show was canceled after the first season due to ratings. See my article “The Real Preachers’ Wives of Atlanta” about “The Sisterhood” at Urbanfaith.com.

This Saturday, on “Iyanla: Fix My Life,” Iyanla Vanzant will attempt to fix the life of the popular Atlanta-based gospel group the Anointed Pace Sisters in the episode entitled “Fix My Overweight Family.” I actually went to high school with two of the Pace Sisters. Also, I wrote an article “Can Iyanla Vanzant Fix Your Life?” for Urbanfaith.com

Bounce TV, the nation’s first-ever broadcast television network for African Americans, will premiere its first original non-scripted series, “Forever Jones” Presented by Wal-Mart on Wednesday, June 5th at 9:00 p.m. ET. The new reality series will delve deeper into the daily lives and challenges of the close-knit, faith-based family and gospel group foreverJONES. The series, set in the family’s hometown of Shreveport, LA, will run original episodes Wednesday nights at 9:00 p.m. over a six-week period.

Oxygen Media has teamed up with Lemuel Plummer, the creator and executive producer of “Vindicated” and producer of “The Sheards,” and Holly Carter, creator and executive producer of “106 & Gospel” and executive producer of “The Sheards,” for the network’s latest series greenlight, “Pastors of L.A.” (working title), an authentic new docu-series set to premiere in the fall of 2013. “Pastors of L.A.” will give viewers a candid and revealing look at six boldly different and world renowned mega-pastors in Southern California, who are willing to share diverse aspects of their lives, from their work in the community and with their parishioners to the very large and sometimes provocative lives they lead away from the pulpit. The cast includes Bishop Noel Jones, Deitrick Haddon, Bishop Clarence McClendon,Pastor Wayne Chaney, Bishop Ron Gibson and Pastor Jay Haizlip.

Will you be watching any of these new reality shows? Are you a fan of reality shows?

Any thoughts?
