Status Update: March 2011

Hello World!!!

I know I’ve been gone a minute, but hopefully, y’all will forgive me…I’ve been crazy busy pursuing my goals for 2011! One of my goals involves me really buckling down this month and April so please, charge it to my schedule and not my heart if my posts are not as exciting or as frequent as I would like them to be. That being said, I will still do my best — so please check me out every Sunday and Wednesday!

As the title of my post suggests, I want to know what’s up with the what’s up? It’s March so by the end of this month, we will have 75 percent of this year left! That sounds crazy when you think of it like that…But how are y’all doing on your goals or resolutions for this year?

One of my goals was to simply eat more vegetables. I know that sounds simple, but for me, it always isn’t…but I was pleasantly surprised when I found myself craving vegetables earlier this week so I had a big salad for dinner on Friday. And it was yummy too:) That doesn’t even sound like me…but it’s true…Another one of my goals is to continue to reduce my monthly bills. I’ve been able to knock down some of the charges on some of my bills, but one of my service providers wasn’t hearing it yesterday…but I’ma pray on it and call back…Hey, a different day, a different customer service rep…you know how it is…I also said I was going to experience more that the A has to offer this year…My city has hosted several awards shows and other world -class events like the Bronner Brothers International Hair Show (which I finally attended last month), and it makes no sense that I’m not in the mix…Also, one of my goals is to send more greeting cards to my friends…With e-mail, e-cards and the like, sending greeting cards through snail mail is a lost art in my opinion…and I love receiving greeting cards in snail mail, and I imagine that others do too…

I’m not sure where I heard this or read this, and I think Catherine Marshall, my favorite author, may have written it. Anyway, I think we should dream so big that only God can help you fulfill that dream. What I mentioned above are only some of the smaller goals I have for 2011, but know that I do have some big goals or dreams on my list as well. And I also know that sometimes it’s best to keep those bigger dreams to yourself as you pursue them so I won’t tell you what other bigger things I’m working on yet — but you will know sometime this year!

But if you have already encountered some sort of stumbling block this year as your pursue your goals or dreams, please listen to this inspirational Yolanda Adams song “Never Give Up.”

Any thoughts?

The Home Stretch (2010 is nearly ova)

Hello World!

We are officially in the last days of 2010.  This means that if you had any goals, resolutions or dreams for the year, you now have just over three weeks including today to get moving on making them a reality…

One of my goals was to pay off my sole credit card, and I did with the help of a financial coach and God in May! There is another important goal and dream that I realized as well, but I’m not ready yet to share that here on my blog. Stay tuned in 2011 though because big things will be poppin’ and little things will be stoppin’. (Thanks T.I. 🙂 )

As the days of the year slip by, I also think it’s an appropriate time to reflect on the highlights and even the sad moments of the year. Although I relish sharing my life with you on this blog, I must confess that as I write, I feel reticent about sharing some of the deeper questions I have grappled with this year…but I will say this, I have begun to pray scriptures…As I get more mature (not perfect) in my Christian walk, I learn more ways of communicating with our heavenly Father. I never knew how powerful it can be to actually pray Bible verses back to God. In His word, God has told us that His word will not return to Him void (Isaiah 55:11), and so now, I take every opportunity to remind Him of what He said…Now, I’m not saying that I can tell God what to do by quoting scripture as He is sovereign, but I do think quoting scripture reminds us of His love and power and it demonstrates to God that we really business…

Below are some of the scriptures I have used this year, as I went through ups and downs of life…

Be strong and very courageous. Be careful to obey all the law my servant Moses gave you; do not turn from it to the right or to the left, that you may be successful wherever you go.   Joshua 1:7

I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service.  And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.  Romans 12:1-2

Delight yourself also in the LORD, and He shall give you the desires of your heart.  Psalm 37:4

Are not two sparrows sold for a copper coin? And not one of them falls to the ground apart from your Father’s will.  But the very hairs of your head are all numbered.  Matthew 10:29-30

And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus.  Philippians 4:19

Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.  Matthew 7:7-8

And then he told them, Go into all the world and preach the Good News to everyone.   Mark 16:15

I call heaven and earth as witnesses today against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing; therefore choose life, that both you and your descendants may live.  Deuteronomy 30:19

For even when we were with you, we commanded you this: If anyone will not work, neither shall he eat.  II Thessalonians 3:10

Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.  And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.  Philippians 4:6-7

So what verses helped you to navigate 2010? What goals, resolutions or dreams have become a reality this year? How will you spend the remaining days of this year?

Any thoughts?

P.S. Because it’s the Christmas season, the proverbial “most wonderful time of the year (As a Jamerican, I actually prefer summer),” I plan post videos of my favorite Christmas songs on my blog posts this month…

Nearly 9 months are down…Are you meeting your goals for 2010?!

Hello World!!!

Can you feel September in the air? I can…It’s crisper outside…my eczema is starting to act up again…college football is on television (Go Dawgs!)…

Guess what y’all? That means we have just over three months to accomplish our goals and dreams for 2010! As I scan over my list, I’m feeling pretty good I must say…not every one has been checked off, but I’m getting there…

I will share a few of them with you…I paid off my credit card, and I am faithfully building up my emergency fund with God’s help! And I have other financial goals that God is helping me to accomplish as well…Yay God! Yay me!

Let me share a few verses with you that I was reminded of last week that inspire me to continue to chase after my goals and dreams for this year…

Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see.  Hebrews 11:1

This verse tells me that just because I don’t see the evidence of what I hope for in my life does not mean that my blessing is not on the way…God is a rewarder of those who diligently seek him, and He is working miracles all of the time…

Dear friends, do not be surprised at the painful trial you are suffering, as though something strange were happening to you. 1 Peter 4:12

People (especially me) don’t like to hear this, but Christians are guaranteed trouble, hardship and setbacks…Why? Because trouble, hardship and setbacks build up our faith!  And without faith, it is impossible to please God…And I find that I trust in God most when I am forced to do so..and you know what they say…”You cannot have a testimony without a test!”

But a time is coming, and has come, when you will be scattered, each to his own home. You will leave me all alone. Yet I am not alone, for my Father is with me. I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.  John 16:32-33

But guess what y’all? Although we are guaranteed trouble, hardship and setbacks, we are also  guaranteed that we are never alone because the Father is with us…AND we are guaranteed that we have the victory because God has the victory!

I hope these verses inspire you to keep striving for your goals for 2010! It ain’t ova till it’s ova!!! I was also reminded of a time-tested saying last week…”If the Lord brought you to it, He will bring you through it!”

Any thoughts?

Pastor Shirley Caesear’s song “You’re Next in Line for a Miracle” comes to mind this morning…Enjoy!
