Pastor Praises Till The Cops Come Knockin’…

Hello World,

Pastor Johnnie Clark and First Lady Harriet Clark...

Pastor Johnnie Clark and First Lady Harriet Clark…

This morning when you go to church, I want you to lift up Pastor Johnnie Clark of Rehoboth United Assemblies Church in Columbia, South Carolina in prayer as he finds himself in jail this Sunday morning…What did the PASTOR do to find himself in jail you are probably asking? Did he steal something? No. Did he have a bunch of traffic tickets? No. Was he a public menace? You’re getting closer…

Pastor Clark is in jail this morning because the church’s praise and worship has violated the city’s noise ordinance as reported by the church’s neighbors…According to the article “Pastor Gets Jail Time for Noisy Church” by Steven Dial, wltx.com, Columbia police officers have been dispatched more than 50 times to the church for violating the ordinance and now Pastor Clark is in jail for TWO WEEKS!!! He was found guilty in a jury trial…

Pastor Clark and his wife, First Lady Harriet Clark, were quoted as saying, “I can’t believe it, jail time, for serving God, what’s next.”

To read the entire story, go to wltx.com.

So quite honestly, a part of me wants to laugh because it so outrageous that a pastor has been put in jail for his church’s praise and worship, another part of me admires that their praise and worship was so on fire that the church’s neighbors had no choice but to listen, and another part of me wonders if Christians have become unfair targets…What say you?

I don’t know where this question originated or who initially asked the question, but this question is an awesome question to ask ourselves every once in a while…

If you were accused of being a Christian, would there be enough evidence to convict you?

Obviously there would be enough evidence for Pastor Clark and his church…at least as far as praise and worship is concerned…

Any thoughts?

A Modern-Day Joseph…RIP Nelson Mandela…

Hello World,

Every once in a while, the words of the Bible become three-dimensional, playing out right in front of you. Since Nelson Mandela’s death was announced last Thursday, I have been thinking about his contributions to humanity. Not only was he a world-class freedom fighter that will remembered among the greatest of men in history, his life was also a testament to God’s word. One of my favorite verses in the Bible is Genesis 50:20….

“As for you, you meant evil against me, but God meant it for good, to bring it about that many peoples hould be kept alive, as they are today.”

These are the words of Joseph to his brothers after they discover that he is no longer in prison where he had been for years, in part, due to their actions…Instead of being a prisoner, he was now a leader in the Egyptian government able to help his brothers and his family during a time of famine…I was listening to a radio broadcast in which Nelson Mandela’s biographer was interviewed. He said how Mandela’s imprisonment of 27 years, refined him as a human being…I wonder had Mandela never been imprisoned, would he have been able to unite his country after he was released and become South Africa’s first black president…Something to ponder when evil is allowed in our lives…

Thank you Mandela for the example of your incredible life…

If you are in Atlanta and want to pay tribute to Mandela, the World Affairs Council of Atlanta and Morehouse College will be holding a memorial service for Mandela on Wednesday, Dec. 11  7-9 p.m. The memorial service will be held at Martin Luther King Jr. International Chapel at Morehouse College which is located at 830 Westview Dr SW 30314.

Any thoughts?

P.S. Will you be seeing the movie “Mandela?” I will…

Hello World,

Thank you God for Jesus because now we have been given a second chance to get right with God! When I think of the devilment I have been involved with from time to time, I thank God that He sees fit to forgive me over and over and over again…That’s why I was so encouraged to read an article about inmates who formed a choir and perform at local churches in Missouri…Below is an excerpt of the article written by Susan Weich from the St. Louis Post-Dispatch….

Wearing leg irons and uniforms in orange or black-and-white stripes, the 12 men belting out “How Great Thou Art” Sunday at Calvary Chapel Church were anything but your traditional choral group.

The performance was a little shaky, with a few missed notes and some forgotten lyrics, but the congregants didn’t seem to mind. They gave the men a standing ovation.

“In their hearts, they’re the (Mormon) Tabernacle Choir,” said Capt. David Curtis, commander of the Lincoln County Jail, who hatched the idea for the Second Chance Choir.

To read the entire article, go to “Lincoln County Inmates Perform at Churches as Second Chance Choir.”

And below is a video of one of their performances….

Aren’t you thankful for a second chance?
