DeVon Franklin & Meagan Good and other celebrity couples celebrate black love with Wal-Mart…

Hello World, walmartblkluv3

As you know if you’ve read even a few of my posts, I’m always writing about single women and the search for love…Well, in honor of Black History Month, Wal-Mart hosts “Black Love and Relationships” tonight at Morehouse College from 6:30 p.m. to 8 pm. This forum, moderated by Dr. Alduan Tartt, psychologist and CNN on-air personality, features celebrity couples DeVon Franklin & Meagan Good, Anthony & Tarsha Hamilton & Bishop Paul S. Morton and Dr. Debra B. Morton. It seems that three unique perspectives of marriage will be offered from the newlywed perspective to the seasoned perspective. Also, as at least two of the panelists are ministers, a Christian perspective of black love and relationships will be offered as well.

To RSVP for this FREE event, go to hthatl.eventbrite.com. However, while the event is free and open to the public, seating is offered on a first come, first served basis. The forum will be held in the Bank of America Auditorium, Shirley A. Massey Executive Conference Center, 830 Westview Drive, SW Atlanta 30314. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. However, if you are unable to come, the forum will be broadcast LIVE via www.walmart.com/historyteachinghistory.If you have a question for the panelists, tweet them at #hthalt.

And since this is the month of love in addition to Black History Month, I have to post my favorite new love song…”You & I” by Avant featuring KeKe Wyatt…I love their duets! I think they have a vocal chemistry similar to Marvin Gaye & Tammi Terrell….What do you think?

GMC TV Debuts “For Richer or Poorer” THIS SATURDAY!

Hello World,

Now that I am engaged, all things wedding and marriage have captured my attention! That’s why GMC TV’s new series “For Richer or Poorer” has me intrigued…Below is a description of the show…

Based on original screenplays written by Cas Sigers Beedles (“A Cross to Bear” and “If You Really Love Me”) and directed by Roger Melvin (“The Love You Save” and “If You Really Love Me”), “For Richer or Poorerfollows couple Aubrey and Kya Wilson who are on an upswing after suffering a major financial blow when Aubrey loses his six-figure job.  Back on track and living a more modest lifestyle, the couple find themselves facing new challenges when they take a trip down memory lane with mementos given to each by ex’s, Kya’s new business takes off, home ownership on the horizon and dreams of expanding their family come in to play. As they explore issues such as honesty, trust, financial role reversal, and parenting, they find a new and deeper respect for their lifetime partner and build for a better future.

And the show includes an all-star cast! Aubrey is portrayed by Rockmond Dunbar, who has starred in several popular television shows including “Girlfriends”  and “Soul Food.” He was also awesome as Sanaa Lathan’s long-suffering husband in Tyler Perry’s “The Family That Preys!” Kya is portrayed by LeToya Luckett, a two-time Grammy Award-winner and a founding member of the R&B group “Destiny’s Child.” The show will also feature two actors from some of my favorite sitcoms from the ’80s and ’90s! Jackée Harry a.k.a. Sandra from “227” and Lisa from “Sister Sister” is also a part of the cast. Carl Payne a.k.a. Cockroach from “The Cosby Show” and Cole from “Martin” is on the show as well! Also on the cast are: Angell Conwell (“Baby Boyand “The Young and the Restless”), Anthony Evans (“The Voice”), Comedian Buddy Lewis and DeEtta West (“A Cross To Bear” and “Meet The Browns”).

Take a look at the trailer and let me know what you think:

My Soul Looks Back in Wonder…Good-Bye 2012…(I’m Engaged!)

Hello World,

My ring atop my favorite Bible…

A man at one of the courthouses I go to for my job came up to me as 2011 came to a close and said, “As good as 2011 was for you, I hope that 2012 is even better.” As he said those optimistic words, my ears tingled because I believe that God was speaking prophetically through this man to me, and I was excited about what was to come. And indeed though 2011 was very good, 2012 was even better. Many of those reasons were highlighted in the post “12 Reasons I’m Thankful for 2012…,” which I wrote last month…

Who know that God would bless me with more in December? As December is the month that the world pauses to celebrate the birth of my Savior, it is one of my favorite times of the year, and I was content to celebrate it as I have for many years – pondering Emmanuel at church, scurrying around the malls of Atlanta hunting for the perfect gifts for family and friends and opening gifts around the tree…But on Christmas Eve, my boyfriend R. (now fiance’…Wow…) asked to marry me, and I said, “Yes.”

Stop the presses…

It’s funny how quickly life can change…In 2009, in one of my favorite posts “Hope. Wish.. Pray…” I wrote about two dreams that had been deferred no matter what I seemed to do, but I never revealed what those dreams were…Well, now I’m ready to reveal them…I wanted to be a published author, and I wanted to be in a relationship that led to marriage…And wonders of wonders…Here I am at the close of 2012 – engaged and published…

So what’s next…

Y’all pray for me, and pray for R. If you’ve read any of my relationship posts, y’all know that relationships have never been easy for me. Some women seem to be have been born knowing how to be coupled up…I am not one of them…In fact, if you want to get a better idea of the angst that I have felt around romantic relationships, these are just three of the blog posts that you have to read…

“Why Can’t a Successful Black Woman Can’t Find a Man? THE DEBATE”

“Alert: Black Men Are Officially on the Endangered Species List and other useless propaganda…” (Also, two of those women in the video are now married. 🙂 )

“So is the black church keeping black women single and lonely?”

We have not set a date…We’ve got a marriage and a wedding to plan…so that’s it and that’s all…

Any thoughts?
