“Joyful Noise” debuts this Friday!!!

People are always complaining about the lack of quality entertainment or entertainment that the whole family can enjoy, but “Joyful Noise” is a family-friendly, quality movie! So let’s support it!!! Below is the description of the movie from the “Joyful Noise” Facebook page…

Oscar® nominees Queen Latifah and Dolly Parton star in “Joyful Noise,” a funny and inspirational story of music, hope, love and renewal.

The small town of Pacashau, Georgia, has fallen on hard times, but the people are counting on the Divinity Church Choir to lift their spirits by winning the National Joyful Noise Competition. The choir has always known how to sing in harmony, but the discord between its two leading ladies now threatens to tear them apart. Their newly appointed director, Vi Rose Hill (Latifah), stubbornly wants to stick with their tried-and-true traditional style, while the fiery G.G. Sparrow (Parton) thinks tried-and-true translates to tired-and-old.Shaking things up even more is the arrival of G.G.’s rebellious grandson, Randy (Jeremy Jordan). Randy has an ear for music, but he also has an eye for Vi Rose’s beautiful and talented daughter, Olivia (Keke Palmer), and the sparks between the two teenagers are causing even more heat between G.G. and Vi Rose.

If these two strong-willed women can overcome their differences and find a common voice, they—and their choir—may make the most joyful noise of all.

According to the AJC, as the film was shot in Atlanta, my folk from the A will recognize some of our fair city featured in the film….

“Although the movie is set in the fictional town of Pacashau, Ga., it’s pretty easy to spot local landmarks, including the Boisfeuillet Jones Atlanta Civic Center, where the final choir competition is held, and Howard’s in Smyrna, where Latifah and Parton fuss and flap at each other like a pair of wet hens. Bethany United Methodist Church in Fayetteville plays the role of Pacashau Divinity Church and the Union City/Jonesboro exit sign off I-85 is visible in one highway scene.

Gospel artist Kirk Franklin performs as the director of a competing choir in a loud and funky scene filmed at the Frederick Brown Jr. Amphitheater in Peachtree City.”

I plan to see “Joyful Noise,” and I hope you do too…

You Can Be Cute Or…(aka Happy Independence Day!!!)

You Can Get It Done….

Hello World,

I chose to get it done…It wasn’t pretty, but I just completed the Peachtree Road Race in 1 hour, 11  minutes and 53 seconds, my personal best 🙂

On this Independence Day, I thank God for my country and those in the government, armed forces, etc. who make it safe for us to enjoy ourselves at the Peachtree Road Race (a hallowed tradition in the A) every year. As my father, the pastor of Central Christian Church, reminded us yesterday, those who are in the government are actually God’s ministers to us…

The authorities that exist have been established by God… For the one in authority is God’s servant for your good. But if you do wrong, be afraid, for rulers do not bear the sword for no reason. Single Ladies in Atlanta Stand Up…

First of all, don’t hate me because I’m a member of the media…I don’t make the news…I just report it…And to my single ladies, particularly those in the A, we are news…

If you hadn’t heard, and I had not until my writer friend Chicki Brown e-mailed a link to me a couple of days ago, VH1 will be putting the single ladies of Atlanta front and center with its new comedic drama Single Ladies. Actresses LisaRaye McCoy, Stacey Dash and Charity Shea will portray Keisha, Val and April as they ponder the question: What do women really want in a relationship? And here’s the obvious kicker: the show will be set in Atlanta. How much you want to bet that this video was the catalyst that brought this show to the little screen? The show, the network’s first hour-long scripted show, will make its debut on May 30 at 9 p.m. EST/PT. Below is a description of the show from AOL Black Voices…

Stacey Dash plays Val, an ambitious aspiring fashion mogul who wants to find a true partner, LisaRaye McCoy is Keisha a former video dancer in search of a sugar daddy to keep her laced in riches and Charity Shea is April, the married friend who learned that finding your true love isn’t all that it’s cracked up to be.

Single Ladies is executive produced by Queen Latifah’s Flavor Unit Entertainment (I cannot help but wonder if this show will be like Living Single? Remember that show?). According to AOL Black Voices, Common (with his tantalizing self), Lauren London, Eve, Chili and Kim Porter are scheduled to make appearances on the show. Well, if Flavor Unit ever needs to have focus groups or consultations for future episodes, I know I can share some of my experiences being single in the A…So will you watch the show? Will anyone else?
