Pray for Sherri Shepherd…

Hello World,

Me and Sherri :)

Me and Sherri 🙂

By now, many of you have heard the latest news about one of my favorite Christian celebrities Sherri Shepherd….She is going through a divorce…

While I don’t profess to know her, I have met her twice – once at ABC News’  “Nightline” debate “Why Can’t a Successful Black Woman Find a Man?” in 2010 and again just last month when Sherri debuted her new wig line LUXHAIR NOW. As a result of meeting her at the debate, she agreed to be interviewed for my first book “After the Altar Call: The Sisters’ Guide to Developing a Personal Relationship With God.” I believe that her story in my book is one of the reasons why I scored a book deal in 2010…

When I saw her just last month, she seemed to be as positive, upbeat and friendly as she has always been…She gave no indication of the private turmoil she may have been experiencing…And that’s the key: privacy…Her pending divorce is a private matter…Now, let me not be hypocritical…As a self-pronounced pop culture expert and celebrity aficionado, I love to dish and dice the latest and most provocative pop culture and celebrity stories…But since I feel have a personal connection with this celebrity (although most minute I know), I have elected to take the stance of her friend Niecy Nash who was asked her opinion about Sherri’s struggles…Take a look at her brief interview with Hip Hollywood below…

Any thoughts?

Hello World,

If you are a follower of this blog, you may know by now that my favorite Christian celebrity is Sherri Shepherd (one of the hosts from “The View”) which is why I was elated to feature an interview with her in my first book “After the Altar Call: The Sisters’ Guide to Developing a Personal Relationship With God.” Why is Sherri Shepherd my favorite Christian celebrity? She isn’t afraid to say what’s on her mind – whether she’s praising Jesus or BeyoncĂ©, she is incredibly nice and she is glamorous! And now, she wants to help all of us be glamorous too!

Me and Sherri :)

Me and Sherri…Obviously, we had black and white on the brain…

I got a chance to see her again yesterday when she stopped by Beauty Master in Morrow, Georgia to present her new wig line LUXHAIR NOW! LUXEHAIR NOW consists of 12 wigs in various lengths, from short pixies to long, luscious waves and comes in 18 colors. And the best part is that Sherri’s collection ranges from $69-$89! Below is a my interview with her as well as some pics from her visit to the the beauty supply store…

On Why She Wears Wigs: “The women in my family have always worn wigs. To this day, I never go wig shopping alone so I love it for bonding. And for the practical aspect, I love the versatility of wigs, and sometimes your hair just needs a break. I like to go the gym and I’m always running around. The days of going to the beauty salon at 9 a.m. and staying until 2 are over so I love the practicality of wigs.”

On What Wig She is Wearing: “I’m wearing the Sleek Angle, and the color is a burgundy mix. I lost my voice. I went to Kandi’s (Kandi Burruss and Todd Tucker from RHOA got got married in Atlanta on Friday, April 4) wedding and it was absolutely beautiful. I knew a lot of people would be hugging me so I knew this one would work.”

On Her Favorite Wigs: “One of my favorites is the Goddess Waves. I can channel my inner Sasha Fierce. I also like the Curl Intense wig which is a big curly wig. I wear that one when I rock my jeans and heels with a leather jacket.”

On What Wig Her Husband Sal Prefers: “Sal’s favorite is my natural hair. I usually wear my hair natural on the weekends. But Sal prefers my short wigs. He thinks sisters who wear short styles are the ultimate in confidence.”

On Her New Wig Line: “I’m very excited about my wig line. If I left this earth without a wig line or a bra line, something would be wrong. People tweet me all of the time about how I achieve my look. They are great quality and very affordable. My fans want to stretch their dollars.”

Below are a few of the wigs…

‘The View’ Co-Host Sherri Shepherd and husband Lamar Sally Are Having A Baby!!!

Hello World,

“The View”‘s Sherri Shepherd recently announced that she and her husband Lamar Sally will be having a baby on “The Tom Joyner Morning Show,” according to Elev8. However, as Shepherd, whom I interviewed for my book “After the Altar Call: The Sisters’ Guide to Developing a Personal Relationship With God,” is 46 years old, the couple have opted to use a surrogate mother.

“We found a drama-free uterus,” Shepherd told Tom and Sybil. “We found a girl that didn’t have any drama in her life. We’re putting in our  egg and Sal’s sperm and we’ll let you know how it progresses.”

Sherri, who already has one son Jeffrey from her previous marriage, recently released her book “Plan D: How to Lose Weight and Beat Diabetes (Even If You Don’t Have It)”and new wig line LUXHAIRNOW by Sherri Shepherd will debut on QVC on June 13.

As I will be getting married this summer, I have started to think about motherhood and whether it’s a real possibility as I will be 40 years old this year…I love spending time with my niece, who is 5 years old, and my nephew, who is 12 years old, and I have worked with the youth at my church in various capacities from being a Sunday School teacher to Vacation Bible School director. But I wonder if I have what it takes to be a mother at this age. I get so sleepy sometimes, and I cannot imagine having to tend to a crying baby at night. And a friend of mine who recently had a baby told me how much she pays for a diapers! Children are expensive, and I have to save for my retirement 🙂 And then if you want to go somewhere you can’t just hop into your car and ride out. You have to consider if you can bring the baby along and if not, you have to find a sitter…And on top of all that, I will be a whopping 40 years older than my child…An old mama. So anyway, these are some of my concerns/fears as I ponder if motherhood is truly for me…I know this all sounds whiny and selfish, but just because you have a uterus doesn’t mean you are supposed to be a mother…

If you’ve had a children at 40 years old and older, let me know how it has been for you!
