Hello World,

Y’all, at long last, I saw THIS on Facebook:

The return of our favorite show was announced with one word!!! Yes!!! I mean, we have been waiting since November 2019 to find out what’s going on. If you need to refresh yourself about what happened on the last episode in November, click HERE.

However, members of the cast continue to branch out in other productions so we have something to occupy us until June.  Lovie Simone is starring in a new movie “Selah and The Spades.” The Amazon original movie “Selah and The Spades” is coming to Amazon Prime Video this Friday on April 17.

Selah And The Spades

Below is a synopsis:

In the closed world of an elite Pennsylvania boarding school, Haldwell, the student body is run by five factions. Seventeen-year-old Selah Summers (Lovie Simone) runs the most dominant group, the Spades, with unshakable poise, as they cater to the most classic of vices and supply students with coveted, illegal alcohol and pills.

Tensions between the factions escalate, and when Selah’s best friend/right hand Maxxie (MOONLIGHT’s Jharrel Jerome) becomes distracted by a new love, Selah takes on a protégée, enamored sophomore Paloma (Celeste O’Connor), to whom she imparts her wisdom on ruling the school. But with graduation looming and Paloma proving an impressively quick study, Selah’s fears turn sinister as she grapples with losing the control by which she defines herself.

In her feature debut, writer/director Tayarisha Poe immerses us in a heightened depiction of
teenage politics. This searing character study encapsulates just how intoxicating power can be for a teenage girl who acutely feels the threat of being denied it. Exciting newcomer Lovie Simone’s performance beautifully embodies both Selah’s publicly impeccable command and the internal fears and uncertainty that drive it.

Below is a brief interview with Lovie Simone:

How did you become involved with this project?

I read the script and was interested so I sent a few self-tapes and then met with Tayarisha over a FaceTime call — she had family members who watched my show Greenleaf. We talked about the movie and I wound up auditioning for both Selah and Paloma.

What interested you in the character of Selah?

I wanted to play Selah because you see how power is handled in her hands. Whoever handles power in a story changes the whole story. The fact that she is a young black teenage girl changes the entire game — you see the extremes Selah goes through to hold onto her power, it’s very eye opening.

What interested you in Haldwell in terms of the setting?

With boarding school comes a lot of freedom. We don’t see teenagers who aren’t in college having that much freedom, so I thought it was cool to experience that through these characters. I also liked the fact there were so many black kids in this very prestigious boarding school — it was different from my own high school experience, where I was the only black female in my class. I also really liked that Selah was the top dog of this underdog faction within Haldwell.

I’m not sure exactly where they are filming in the A in Season 4 except for this location thanks to this AJC article by Rose Kennedy:

House of Hope Atlanta

4650 Flat Shoals Pkwy, Decatur

This huge, beautiful church has featured in all three seasons as lead character Bishop James Greenleaf’s home church, Calvary Fellowship. Organized more than 138 years ago as a Sunday School and prayer meeting group, it now ministers to five generations under the leadership of senior pastor/teacher Dr. E. Dewey Smith, Jr.

Some of the locations from Season 3 include:

Eagle Rock Studios

6205 Best Friend Road, Norcross

All three seasons of Greenleaf have been filmed at Eagle Rock, according to location manager Patrick Rofoli.

“We have a portion of the Greenleaf Mansion built on stage, along with the offices and hallways of the churches, including an amazing coffee shop that we added this season to the church set.”

The parsonage and various swing sets are all also shot on various Eagle Rock stages. “Both Norcross and Gwinnett County are film-ready communities with great support from the citizens and the government,” Rofoli added.

Wages & Sons Funeral Home

1031 Lawrenceville Highway, Lawrenceville

Season 3 of Greenleaf involved the fictional Thompson Casket & Funeral Service, filmed at the family-owned Wages & Sons Funeral Home, which has served metro Atlanta’s funeral and crematory needs for more than 50 years.

And if you’re in the metro Atlanta area (or if you’re willing to fly in I guess) and have a baby, you can be on set THIS week!

Season 3 of OWN’s Hit Megachurch Drama ‘Greenleaf’ Set for Two-Night Premiere Tues., August 28 & Wed.,August 29!!!

Guest stars this season include Beau Bridges, Iyanla Vanzant and Patti LaBelle!

Hello World,

I’ve got GOOD NEWS! It’s not the gospel, but it’s good nevertheless! LOL!

The Oprah Winfrey Network aka OWN announced that the third season of its hit megachurch drama “Greenleaf”  will premiere on Tuesday, August 28 and Wednesday, August 29 at 10 p.m. each night!!!

In Season 3 of “Greenleaf,” all the turbulent forces that Grace’s (Merle Dandridge) return to Memphis unleashed threaten to destroy not just the church her family built, but the family itself. Fallout from last season’s shocking revelation of Bishop’s (Keith David) infidelities with Lady Mae’s (Lynn Whitfield) sister Mavis (Oprah Winfrey), as well as reverberations from his current dalliance with that insidious Jezebel, Rochelle Cross (LeToya Luckett) lead to all-out war in the Greenleaf home, setting the Bishop and Lady Mae on a collision course that, unless God or Grace intervenes, can only end one way: divorce. In the wake of the marital mayhem, Lady Mae rushes to reconnect with Maxine Patterson (Patti LaBelle), an old friend and now a world-famous Christian motivational speaker, in an attempt to reclaim her forsaken call to preach and thus do what no First Lady has done before – survive as the sole head pastor of a megachurch after a major rift between its founding couple.

Grace, meanwhile, works undercover in the company of Rochelle, hoping to discover Rochelle’s motives and true identity before the Bishop is swept away on a raging river of vanity and desire. Across town at Triumph, Jacob (Lamman Rucker) and Kerissa (Kim Hawthorne) try not to make the same mistakes Bishop and Lady Mae made as they work to build their own evangelical empire and manage parenting their teenage daughter Zora (Lovie Simone), but the roots of sin delve deep and old habits die hard. Sophia’s (Desiree Ross) faith is tested when an unforeseen medical issue arises; Charity (Deborah Joy Winans) struggles to make peace with Kevin (Tye White) and find her place in the world; and Grace works to keep an abused woman from death row for the crime of defending her own life. Meanwhile, Darius (Rick Fox) finds himself in conflict due to being entangled in an increasingly strained relationship with Grace.

The drama-filled season will feature guest stars including multiple Emmy, Golden Globe and Grammy Award-winning actor Beau Bridges (“Homeland”), who plays Bob Whitmore, the folksy and charming founder of Harmony of Hope Ministries – a massive denomination with churches all over the world – who will use any unsavory tool at his disposal to win. Iyanla Vanzant, six-time New York Times’ best-selling author, acclaimed spiritual life coach and star of OWN’s popular “Iyanla: Fix My Life,” portrays herself helping Charity (Deborah Joy Winans) finally find her place in the Greenleaf family. Multiple Grammy Award-winning recording artist, actress, and entrepreneur Patti LaBelle (“American Horror Story,” “Daytime Divas”) guest stars in the recurring role of Maxine Patterson – a famous Christian motivational speaker and the CEO of a global Christian self-help empire; an old friend of Lady Mae’s (Lynn Whitfield) from college days, Maxine will be Lady Mae’s sounding board and greatest ally as Lady Mae attempts to consolidate her power at Calvary.
