Robin Givens of ‘Boomerang’ & ‘RHOA’s Kenya Moore to Star in Tonight’s Episode of ‘Saints & Sinners” on Bounce TV! (VIDEO)

Hello World,

If you came of age in the ’90s like I did, then you remember Robin Givens from ABC sitcom “Head of the Class!” And then her star power surged when she married and later divorced world heavyweight boxing champion Mike Tyson. My favorite role of hers is when she portrayed the brash and boss chick Jacqueline Broyer in the 1992 classic movie “Boomerang” starring Eddie Murphy. She had Eddie Murphy’s character Marcus Graham sprung in a way that women are typically portrayed as sprung – sniveling and sappy when the object of affection suddenly withdraws the “affection!”

(I’ve said (typed) it before, and I will say (type) it again the ’90s was the golden age of black cinema and television although black cinema and television seems to be heating up right now!) But since then, I haven’t heard that much about her. Have you? I see she is on that show “Riverdale,” but I don’t watch show.  Do you? Well, if you want to see the original mean girl, tune into tonight at 9:00 p.m. ET to watch “Saints & Sinners” on Bounce TV!

“Real Housewives of Atlanta” Kenya Moore, a real life mean girl turned reluctant reality star now that she is actually a wife, will also star in tonight’s episode of “Saints & Sinners” although you can probably see her on Round Two of RHOA’s Season 10 Reunion show coming on tonight as well.

Saints & Sinners” tells the story of the conflicts among the members of a Baptist church in small-town Georgia. The plot consists of greed, corruption and murder.

Season 3 of “Saints & Sinners” sees all hell breaking loose in Cypress, Georgia. A vicious, no-holds-barred battle for Greater Hope Baptist Church erupts between the old guard, Mayor Johnson (Vanessa Bell Calloway) and Rex (Clifton Powell), and the young bloods Levi (Christian Keyes) and Jabari (J.D. Williams) while Kendrick (Tray Chaney) tries to survive a life-threatening predicament to expose his grandmother, Leona (Donna Biscoe who is my old taebo instructor!) as a killer. Miles (Keith Robinson, who I went to school with at the University of Georgia) is once again caught between his wife and his one-time mistress, Christie (Jasmine Burke) as Tamara’s (Demetria McKinney) wild allegations threaten to put Christie away forever. Detective St. Charles (Afemo Omilami) has his hands full with chaos and crime running rampant in Cypress in season three. “Saints & Sinners” is produced in partnership with Swirl Film’s Eric Tomosunas (Undershepard, 35 and Ticking).

Below is a video clip from tonight’s episode!

Gospel Music’s Warryn & Erica Campbell Set to Star in Reality Show “WE’RE THE CAMPBELLS” on TV One! But Should They?

New Series Will Follow the Grammy Award-Winning Power Couple as They Raise Their Family in a Faith-Based Household, While Juggling Multiple Thriving Careers...

Hello World,

I don’t know if I agree with this but TV One has announced the start of production in Los Angeles for the new original reality show WE’RE THE CAMPBELLS.  The reality show follows gospel music power couple Warryn and Erica Campbell as they balance raising their family, building their own individual empires, growing their flourishing church ministry and maintaining their strong faith. Married since 2001, WE’RE THE CAMPBELLS will allow viewers to follow Warryn and Erica as they manage their hectic daily work schedules while fostering a healthy marriage and raising three children with the help of their core group of family and friends.

At the center of this close-knit and loving musical family is Erica Campbell – in addition to her busy roles as a wife and mother, she is one half of the award-winning Gospel music super duo Mary Mary, an entrepreneur, co-host of the popular nationally-syndicated Reach Media program Get Up! Mornings with Erica Campbell and First Lady of a thriving church ministry.  Her equally ambitious husband, award-winning music veteran Warryn Campbell, has produced music for many of today’s most influential artists, is the founder of record label My Block Inc., and Pastor of the fast-growing church ministry, California Worship Center.

WE’RE THE CAMPBELLS will film between the family home city of Los Angeles and Dallas, where Erica divides her time while taping her daily radio program. Slated to premiere in June 2018, the nine episode docu-series will highlight the obstacles many families face while trying to balance careers, maintain a healthy marriage, and raising their three children Krista, Warryn, and Zaya.

WE’RE THE CAMPBELLS is produced for TV One by Entertainment One (eOne).  Executive Producers are Tara Long, Mark Herwick, Kim McCoy, Warryn Campbell and Erica Campbell; Co- Executive Producer is Narvin Russaw. For TV One, Tia Smith is the Executive in charge and Sr. Director of Original Programming & Production; Donyell Kennedy McCollough is Sr. Director of Talent, and D’Angela Proctor is Head of Original Programming and Production.

Below is a trailer for WE’RE THE CAMPBELLS:

So I think they’re an adorable family, and I will watch, but I think reality shows are toxic for marriages long term. I mean, Erica only has to look at what unfolded on her previous reality show Mary Mary with her sister Tina and her husband Teddy. I wrote about that saga in my post “Why Mary Mary May Need To Get Off Reality TV…My Open Letter to Erica & Tina Campbell.” And later, I interviewed Tina Campbell about the show including her husband’s infidelity in “Mitchell Solarek is NOT Tina Campbell’s Manager & More: My Interview With Mary Mary’s Tina Campbell.” The couple has made the mess their message in their web series “10 Minutes with Teddy & Tina,” but look (and you really could look) at all they went through!

And it’s not like the other Campbells haven’t experienced infidelity too. On that show Black Love on OWN, Warryn Campbell revealed that he cheated on Erica with another woman and got the woman pregnant! See the revelation below:

I had never heard that before but it’s likely we, the viewing public, will learn even more about their marriage AND their children. Like I said, I will watch but I hope this show is only on for a short period not six seasons like Erica & Tina Campbell’s reality show Mary Mary. And remember when the show started, they were a solid duo and now when they perform together it’s a reunion for a special reason

So will you watch Warryn & Erica Campbell’s reality show WE’RE THE CAMPBELLS on TV One?

How Martin Luther King Jr.’s Last Sunday Sermon Speaks to Us Today – A Post from the Denison Forum…

Me and Dr. Bernice King, CEO of The King Center, at the Atlanta Tribune: The Magazine Women of Excellence reception last night…

Hello World,

I had planned to post about the fact that the 33rd Stellar Gospel Music Awards will be aired tonight on Good Friday no less on TV One at 9 p.m. EST and 8 p.m. CST and share some fun red carpet photos from the event which took place last Saturday, but then I received an inspiring post in my inbox from the Denison Forum  this morning which is the website where Dr. Jim Denison writes about cultural and contemporary issues from a Christian perspective.

His post was so inspiring and timely that I thought I would share a portion of it here particularly since I got the chance to hear Dr. Bernice King speak at the Atlanta Tribune: The Magazine Woman of Excellence Reception last night. I interviewed her in 2014 for the magazine so I got to know her a little bit back then, but last night she reminded everyone of something: When Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., her father, became a martyr on April 4, 1968, 50 years ago next week, he was one of the most hated men in America. It was only because of the diligent work of his wife Coretta Scott King AFTER his death that he became a man loved the whole world over. Her statement spoke to me on so many levels. When we’re doing what is right in the eyes of the Lord we may not be liked, loved nor appreciated. In fact, we may not even live to see the fruits of our sacrificial labor. I’m reminded that when Jesus died he was treated as a common criminal, spat on, mocked and physically abused. So it is up to us to demonstrate that his actions in laying down his life were the ultimate in sacrificial love and that this gift of love is high, deep and wide enough to save whole world if only we share this Good News…

Below is a portion of Dr. Denison’s post:

Tomorrow marks the fiftieth anniversary of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s last Sunday sermon.

On March 31, 1968, Dr. King preached at the Washington National Cathedral. An overflow crowd heard him deliver “Remaining Awake Through a Great Revolution,” calling his listeners to join God in a movement that would bring righteousness to a culture divided by racial bigotry and endemic poverty.

In his message, he noted: “On some positions, cowardice asks the question: Is it expedient? And then expedience comes along and asks the question: Is it politic? Vanity asks the question: Is it popular? Conscience asks the question: Is it right?”

Then Dr. King stated, “There comes a time when one must take the position that is neither safe nor politic nor popular, but he must do it because conscience tells him it is right.”

Four days later, he paid for his conscience with his life.

Dr. King ended his sermon by invoking a hymn sung earlier in the service as a challenge to America, the church, and all of humanity:

Once to ev’ry man and nation
Comes the moment to decide,
In the strife of truth and falsehood,
For the good or evil side;
Some great cause, some great decision,
Off’ring each the bloom or blight,
And the choice goes by forever
‘Twixt that darkness and that light.

“God proved his love on the cross”

On this Good Friday, we remember Jesus’ choice “‘twixt that darkness and that light,” his “great decision” to bear the evil of our sin for the “great cause” of our salvation.

You and I have no ability to fathom just what this day cost our Savior.

I will share one snippet from the Stellar Awards. Below is a video snippet of Tori Kelly & The Hamiltones, the R&B trio made up of the three singers who sing background for Anthony Hamilton, performing “Help Us To Love,” which is appropros on this Good Friday.

Here is a excerpt of the lyrics written by Kirk Franklin:

This world is weeping, hurting, broken and begging for change
Oh yeah
But still we marching, praying, dying, and things stay the same
When will we see?
Till everyone’s free
There’ll never be peace between you and me
God, your love is the cure
For the rich and the poor
God, please will you open our eyes?
