Rapper Snoop Dogg Debuts Sample of His New Gospel Album! (VIDEO)

Hello World,

Back in May, Rapper Snoop Dogg announced that he would be releasing a gospel album. For those of you who are familiar with Uncle Snoop, as he is known to millennials, and his music, the gospel is the last thing I would imagine he would choose to highlight in his music. I’m not gon lie and act like I’m not a fan of Snoop Dogg. I’ve liked his music since he was a debut artist back in the ’90s. And that’s the thing…if you came of age when I came of age, back in the ’90s, as Snoop Dogg and I did, we have all evolved since then — and that includes our musical tastes.  Back then, I wasn’t necessarily listening to gospel music, but now, gospel music is the music I rely on to give praise to my Father in Heaven. With that said, I can understand why Snoop Dogg now enjoys a good gospel groove! (I mean Snoop has a cooking show with Martha Stewart! Dude has undeniably evolved!)

But should he be making gospel music?  I know a lot of people don’t think so. Here is what one of my friends said…

“You don’t find that just a little bit creepy? ‘Rev. Snoop?'”

LOL.  The answer is “No.” I don’t think he is necessarily trying to save anyone per se through this gospel album ( I don’t even know if he is saved), but you never know how God can speak through somebody. I always say if God can speak through a donkey in the Bible, then God can speak through anybody! I simply think he enjoys gospel music and wants to express his affinity for the genre in his own album (and likely make some money too). That’s it and that’s all. I don’t know that I will look for his gospel album when it comes out, but if I happen to hear a song from the album, I will definitely listen to what he has to say. I’m not saying I want Snoop to be my pastor, but I think all music is for everyone. Snoop recently posted a snippet of his upcoming gospel album, which is reportedly almost done…Take a listen and let me know what you think…It’s rockin’ ta me!

Are you going to buy Snoop Dogg’s gospel album when it drops?

Should Rapper 2 Chainz’s ‘Pink Trap House’ Be Used for a Church?

Hello World,

Here in the A for the past couple of weeks, folks have been flocking to rapper 2 Chainz’s Pink Trap House to take pictures in front of the hood anomaly. For those of you who have been privileged enough to not know what a trap house is,  a trap house is a “term used to define a crack house, or the surroundings in which a drug dealer or(trap star) would use to make their profit,” according to urbandictionary.com. In an effort to promote his latest album, “Pretty Girls Like Trap Music,” which debuted last month, 2 Chainz had a house in the A painted pink with the word “TRAP” painted on the front of it. Reportedly, the inside of the house is an art gallery. Since then, folks from all over have positioned themselves to take fun pictures in front of the 2 Chainz’s shrewd publicity tool and posted them on Instagram.

Below are just a sampling of these photos from ThePinkTraphouse Instagram page.

I admit I want to go to the Pink Trap House and take a cool picture. And although a trap house has a negative connotation, some have found positive uses for the Pink Trap House including a church.

As you can see, I guess service was held this past Sunday. And yesterday, a free HIV testing was offered was at the Pink Trap House…

But Greenforest Community Baptist Church Youth Pastor Al Hollie Jr . says he hates the Pink Trap House (although he doesn’t disrespect 2 Chainz) which he talked about on his Facebook page on Sunday and since then has been reported by Fox 5.  Below is his original video, which has been shared at least 400 times. He told the news station that his father regularly visited trap houses where he used drugs and is still a substance abuser today. Hollie noted the generations of families can be affected by what happens in a trap house and said that the people who have been taking pictures in front of the Pink Trap House couldn’t have experienced what he experienced as a child nor grew up near a trap house.

My husband and I discussed this over the weekend, and I can see his point. He doesn’t think it’s cool to take a picture in front of the Pink Trap House either. What do you think?

And do you think despite the negative connotation of a real trap house that 2 Chainz’s publicity tool can be used for positivity?

I wonder what Ms. O aka Mavis McCready is thinking here?…

Hello World,

Can you believe it?! Half of 2017 is ova!  I hope you’re accomplishing your goals for this year! With God’s help, I’m making progress on mine…

Anywho, so although it’s the start of July as of this weekend, I’m looking forward to Tuesday, Aug. 15 and  Wednesday, Aug. 16 because those are the dates that OWN’s “Greenleaf” returns, according to Deadline.com!!!

Of course, now that I have a date in mind, I’m brainstorming about my “Greenleaf” recaps. If you have any feedback for me, please let me know. Do you like the length of the recaps? Do you prefer character analysis or a straight recap of events or a mixture of both? Any feedback is welcome and appreciated!

And if you’re in NOLA TODAY at the ESSENCE festival with half of America’s black population, the cast of OWN’s Greenleaf will be up in there!!!

Below is a juicy preview video from the Facebook page of OWN’s “Greenleaf!” The countdown to Aug. 15 and 16 has officially begun!
