Why Mo’Nique Is Wrong To STILL Be Seeking an Apology From Tyler Perry and Oprah Winfrey AND For How She Has Treated Her Son Publicly…

A Black History Month Post...

Hello World,

In the past, I had been a fan of  Mo’Nique for quite some time. I think she is a talented comedian AND actress. One of my favorite Mo’Nique movies is Phat Girlz, and  I wrote one of my favorite blog posts ever Why I Have A Dead Spiritual Mentor Like Mo’Nique Does In Hattie McDaniel… based on something she said. And she rightfully won an the Best Supporting Actress Award Oscar for the role of Mary in Precious in 2010! She was simply magnificent in that role. She didn’t play Mary. She embodied her…

And speaking of Precious, which came out in 2009, and since this is still Black History Month, I hope that somehow Mo’Nique sees this post and decides to relegate her feud with Tyler Perry and Oprah regarding Precious to black history where it belongs a whole 15 years after the fact! If you’re not familiar with the feud, the Daily Mail did a good job summarizing it in an article written by Carly Johnson …Here is the summary below…

Her feud with Winfrey and Perry dates back to 2009. She previously claimed that her refusal to promote their film Precious for ‘free’ as well as omitting Perry, Winfrey and director Lee Daniels from her 2010 Oscars speech resulted in her being ‘blacklisted.’

Mo’Nique is now claiming that she has audio of Perry confessing to her over the phone that he was the one who started the rumor that she’s ‘difficult to work with.’

She also alleged that Perry admitted he was ‘wrong’ and told her that he planned to vindicate her publicly after his 2016 film Boo hit theaters.

The reason why I’m referencing this feud is because earlier in the month, Mo’Nique sat down with Shannon Sharpe on his popular podcast Club Shay Shay and rehashed the entire feud as if she hasn’t been talking about it any time she can in any interview/conversation she can since 2009.  If you want to see the podcast conversation, it is below. (NOTE: If you’re offended by explicit language, please don’t partake in the conversation…)

And now she is not only mad at Tyler Perry and Oprah, she has added others including to her lengthy grievance list including fellow comedian D.L. Hughley and filmmaker Will Packer. The thing about Mo’Nique is that she is a compelling speaker (which is probably one of the reasons why she is a gifted comedian and actress), and if you’re not careful, you can find yourself siding with her against all of these people until you sit back and say to yourself: If she is the common denominator in all of these situations, how is it always not her fault particularly when other people aren’t saying similar things about these specific people?  Still, that being noted, some of these people may have wronged her but to collect this list of injustices like beads in a necklace she wears around her neck is only choking her at this point. Have you heard the statement, “Resentment is like drinking poison expecting the other person to die?” The vitriol with which she speaks about all of these people has clearly poisoned her and her perspective. Meanwhile, these people are living their lives like Mo’Nique doesn’t matter.

I also found it interesting that in all of these scenarios, she is not at fault for anything, according to her. In fact, the only accountability she had was when she mentioned her relationship with her eldest son. She told Unc aka Shannon Sharpe that when he was a child she was more interested in being famous than being his mother. Shortly after the podcast interview aired, her eldest son, whom I never heard speak about his relationship with his mother in public before, made a TikTok video about this mother and shared how the fractured relationship came to be. As you could expect, Mo’Nique and her husband whom she refers to as “Daddy” went on the defensive and called her son mentally ill AND now she is skewering him in her comedy routines!!! What mother does that to a son especially since she shared in the podcast interview that she hoped her relationship with her son could be repaired?

Sadly, unless Monique observes spiritual laws such as:

“Do not judge, and you will not be judged. Do not condemn, and you will not be condemned. Forgive, and you will be forgiven.” Luke 6:37

or

“So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you, for this sums up the Law and the Prophets.” Matthew 7:12

she will be in the exact same place 15 years from now…At the very least, if she wants forgiveness from her son, she needs to forgive others whom she thinks wronged her…

If God can forgive us for our sins and even allowed His son to die on the cross for them, how in the world can we justify not forgiving others no matter what has been done?

Mo’Nique, please let this mess be official black history after this month…If God is on your side, nobody can truly “blacklist” you…

Any thoughts?

Why I Will Be Watching the Lifetime Two-Part Documentary ‘Where is Wendy Williams?’ on Feb. 24 & 25 And More…

“Where is Wendy Williams?” will debut on Saturday, February 24 and 25, 2024, at 8pm ET/PT on Lifetime.

Hello World,

It’s me. Jackie. Founder and Proprietor of After the Altar Call, my humble corner of Al Gore’s Internet…

Let me be real with you. I was seriously thinking of not coming back. My thinking was that I’ve been going pretty hard on here for roughly 15 years as of last year. I have lots of content that I’m proud of here and that people can still find should they want or need to read it. And being the mother of nearly two-year-old twins (at the end of the month), they are my absolute priority and greatest assignment from God (next to being a wife) during this time period. And speaking of time. I have little of it. So there’s that. BUT when I thought about not posting anything else for years and just letting this site gather virtual tumbleweeds, it made me sad. AND I thought about the unique voice that God gave me — I love God with ALL of my soul…But He also gave me my love of shade…I LOVE combining soul and shade on After the Altar Call …And I haven’t come across any other journalist/writer who does it the way I can and on a consistent basis…Yes, I’m popping my collar right now…but I can’t take the credit. God made me this way…So here I am again. With all of my time (and energy) constraints. But I’m trusting that if God intends to use me right here that He will help me to do His will…

All of that brings me to the main topic of today’s post…As far as I know, Wendy Williams is not a Christian, but as a lover of shade, NO ONE does it like her…I believe God made her that way. She has a unique voice that, to date, has not been duplicated…She’s been off the scene for a while dealing with a myriad of issues, but Lifetime recently announced that on February 24 and 25, the network will be releasing a two-part documentary “Where is Wendy Williams?” which is executive produced by the Queen of All Media herself. See the trailer below…

I have a few thoughts after watching this trailer…

  1. Wendy said she has no money. Considering how much money Wendy amassed during her career, I know it seems tragic that she either has no money or has access to the money she does have as I believe she has a financial guardian. However, I believe that having money is the least of her worries. In fact, it’s probably a good thing that she doesn’t have money right now because having money may lead her to believe that she is self-sufficient. Right now, she needs to be banking on God. If she can allow God to straighten her out spiritually then money can be added to her…The Bible does say “Seek ye FIRST the kingdom of God and all things will be added to you”...And speaking of adding, let me add this: Another benefit of her having no money is that her ex-husband and his former mistress now baby mama cannot profit from her pain…And that’s just how God works…On the one hand, He’s enabling Wendy to see that she cannot depend on her money when it comes to the condition of her spirit AND enabling her ex-husband to reap what he has sown…Sorry not sorry Sharina….Hopefully, you are raising your daughter with more scruples than you have…
  2. And speaking of Kevin or Kelvin or whatever his real name is, I do believe in losing her marriage, Wendy believes that she lost the main source of her support system, but I was encouraged to see her father, sister, niece and son in the trailer. I believe that losing her mother also deeply saddened her as that was and is understandable, but she still has a family. I hope she allows them to love on her and be used by God to help heal her.
  3. I also saw that she has at least one Christian person in her friend circle. Did y’all notice that Blac Chyna aka Angela White was hugging her in one scene? Over the years I’ve heard Wendy say that she shunned celebrity friendships so that they didn’t influence her commentary on Hot Topics, but considering that she herself is a Hot Topic right now, it’s been time for her to redefine some of her former standards…

So those are a few of the thoughts I had as I watched the trailer, but below is the official description of the two-part documentary:

Over the course of nearly two years, cameras chronicled the former television host and radio star Wendy Williams’ on the next phase of her life, following the end of her iconic talk show. The documentary provides a raw, honest and unfiltered reality of Wendy’s life after she was placed under financial guardianship, shedding light on the vulnerabilities that has turned Wendy into the Hot Topic herself. Suffering mental and physical issues, Wendy’s delicate state of mind, erratic behavior and declining health were all captured by the cameras. Where is Wendy Williams? is the story of Wendy’s journey to resurrect her career, and what filmmakers discovered along the way. But many questions remain – who truly has Wendy’s best interest at heart? Is she healthy now? And Where is Wendy Williams?

If you need a refresher on what’s been going on with Wendy over the last few years, below are a few of my previous posts…

I will definitely be watching. What about you? I don’t know where Wendy is, and truthfully, none of us need to know. Wherever she is, God knows and can always get to her. My prayer for her is that she will allow Him to heal her in every way that she needs to be healed…

And one additional thing:

Speaking of seeking God first, this is the best rendition I heard of the song “All Good Things Will Be Added Unto You.” Claire Huxtable aka Phylicia Rashad was truly used by God in this moment…See for yourself…

Any thoughts?

So do you intend to watch?

Seven Things Da’Naia Jackson, Wife of YouTube Relationship Influencer Derrick Jaxn, Should Be Doing Other Than Charging for Her High-Priced H.E.A.L.E.D: Infidelity Recovery Bootcamp…

Hello World,

Although I quietly followed the relationship saga of disgraced YouTube relationship influencer Derrick Jaxn and his wife Da’Naia Jackson, I had very little to say on the situation because I felt compassion for new Christian Da’Naia Jackson. In my early days as a Christian, I probably appeared to be crazy too when it came to some of the choices I made in my love life and how I thought I heard from God. Thankfully, I did not get married during that time period nor make any relationship decisions that I couldn’t undo because the results would have likely been disastrous…

If you’re unfamiliar with what transpired between the Jacksons, please catch yourself up by reading this summary by Madame Noire writer Shannon Dawson…

In 2021, Jackson was dragged into the court of public opinion when her ex-husband Derrick Jaxn confessed to cheating in a cringey YouTube video.  Jackson donned a black bonnet and timid expression, holding her former husband’s hand as he admitted to his infidelity.

At the time, the devout Christian said she had “made peace” with the famed relationship coach’s creepin’ and that they were working to rebuild their marriage. But things eventually turned sour between the pair.

After four years of marriage, in December 2022, Jaxn filed for divorce from Da’Naia. But shortly after the split, social media users couldn’t help but notice the shy and submissive influencers glow up online.

After reading this article and learning about her H.E.A.L.E.D: Infidelity Recovery Bootcamp, which costs $990 at the base level and up to $4997 for one-on-one coaching, I felt compelled to add my commentary. Last month, she was interviewed by Laterras R. Whitfield on his Dear Future Wifey Podcast and the two-episode interview went viral. I listened to both episodes and I was encouraged by how composed she seemed after seeming so unhinged before. But after learning about this bootcamp, I find myself doubting where she says she is versus where she actually is in her healing journey. So as her big sister in Christ, I am writing this commentary hoping that she will see it. And I hope other women who may be in a similar situation will see it and take note as well. So below is my “Seven Things Da’Naia Jackson, Wife of YouTube Relationship Influencer Derrick Jaxn, Should Be Doing Other Than Charging for Her High-Priced H.E.A.L.E.D: Infidelity Recovery Bootcamp…”

1. Get Properly Divorced. While it is stated in the Madame Noire article that Derrick Jaxn is Da’Naia’s ex-husband. In the Dear Future Wifey Podcast, she said that the two are still married although he reportedly filed for divorce last year. Please see what she said at 1:26:30 in part two of the interview. Unless they are actively working through their issues in their marriage, I wonder why they are still legally married. And if they have chosen to stay married, is choosing to stay married in the wake of infidelity covered in the infidelity recovery bootcamp?

2. Go Inward Not Outward. I appreciate that Da’Naia is experiencing a “glow-up” after appearing in a bonnet alongside her husband in a video in which he detailed his infidelity. However, a glow-up is not necessarily indicative of being grown-up. I  can attest that some of my best growing up took place while I was wearing my own bonnet. I cannot tell you how many times I have prayed and cried, journaled, read, etc. while wearing a bonnet in the privacy of my home.  And the end result has been a woman who not only looks good on the outside but feels good on the inside. I never watched Derrick Jaxn’s videos until he was exposed by Tasha K, but within a few minutes of watching a video or two, I could tell that this was not a man who should be doling out relationship advice. Discernment is not something you can put on. It comes after spending time with God.

3. Fast From Social Media. This is more like 2.5, but since social media is a world in and of itself, it deserves it’s own numeral. These social media streets can be dangerous and deceptive.  Social media is how Derrick Jaxn was able to build a relationship empire while he was all the while cheating on his wife. I’ve noticed that Da’Naia has posted herself several times in new clothes, makeup, etc. on Instagram since the divorce announcement.  I have to wonder if she trying to prove something via social media. Is she trying to prove to Derrick that she can still look good despite all that he has done? If so, I understand. However, as I noted in number 2, healing comes from the inside, not the outside. But social media encourages validation from outward sources, sometimes to our own detriment. To counteract that, sometimes we have to fast from social media.

4. Allow Yourself To Be Tested. I love me some chocolate and other sugary treats! But I have worked very hard to not succumb to my worst impulses that will have me overweight and unhappy. One of the ways that I knew that I had received healing in this area is that I can be around some of my former favorite sugary treats and not even been tempted by them. I can see how some women including Da’Naia were attracted to Derrick Jaxn as a chocolate man. She noted in her recent podcast interview that even before they were married, she knew she was one of several women that he was sexing! While she may be working to get over the hold he had on her, what is she going to do when the next hunk of chocolate comes at her? When you are no longer tempted by a certain man or men like him, you know you have been healed. She said in the podcast interview that she is not dating, which is good since she is still married. However, when the time is right, she needs to see if the same type of man is tempting to her. If he is, she still has work to do.

5. Get Healing For Your Father Wounds.  Da’Naia also noted in the podcast interview that her relationship with her father influenced her relationship choices. I think that is a wise conclusion. So much of who we are comes from our relationships with our parents.  However, given the timing of her relationship as recounted online, I have to wonder if truly enough time has passed by for these deep-rooted issues to be healed. I have to take this time to recommend Overcoming Father Wounds: Exchanging Your Pain for God’s Perfect Love by Kia Stephens as a resource for those who may be experiencing hurt as a result of father wounds. While my relationship with my father is an affirming one, I believe that God has gifted Kia with a ministry for people who have experienced challenges in their relationships with their fathers.

6. Make Sure Your Children Are Good In Their Relationship With Their Father. Sadly, if Derrick would do this to Da’Naia, the mother of his children, I have to doubt that his relationship with their children as their father will not be unscathed…Hopefully, they will not suffer in the same way as their mother did in her relationship with her father…

7. Just Wait. As I noted previously, healing takes time. Nary six months have passed since the divorce announcement and now Da’Naia has been healed?! She also noted in the podcast interview that she worked behind the scenes in her husband’s business although many of his followers didn’t know he was even married! It’s clear that Derrick has her to thank for much of his success. She is intelligent and is very savvy at social media strategy, so much so that these high-behind prices she is charging for her H.E.A.L.E.D: Infidelity Recovery Bootcamp almost makes it seem like a scam. In fact, some are wondering if her husband is behind it all and the two are in cahoots…I doubt it, but stranger things have happened. How do she prevent this scrutiny? Wait. As the Bible says, there is a season for everything under the sun. Maybe her infidelity recovery bootcamp (and teachers do rightly receive additional scrutiny as noted in the word)  will be healing to some women in similar situations, but is NOW the time to launch them? I say, “No.”

So that’s all I have for now…

Any thoughts?

P.S. Do y’all know that Derrick Jaxn got the nerve to still be doling out relationship advice…He has a course going on TA-DAY!!! It’s called Secrets to Making an EVOLVED Man Crave You! How he know? You stoopid if you sign up for this…
