After Audio Leaked In Which Kirk Franklin Curses Out His Son, I Have to Ask, ‘Should Cursing Cancel You as a Christian/Gospel Artist?’

Kirk Franklin to Appear on Tamron Hall on Wednesday, March 17!

Hello World,

By now, I’m sure you’ve heard the explicit exchange between Gospel megastar Kirk Franklin, 51, and his estranged son Kerrion Franklin, 32. I first heard it on Saturday night, but because I was already preparing a pretty length post for the next day, I knew I would have to get to it at a later date. If you have not heard it, it is below…As I wrote above, it is explicit so if you are offended by hearing curse words, I suggest you not click on the IG post.

However, if do you want the gist of it without listening to it, here’s a summary of what was said…

“You need to get your skinny motherf**king a$$ back out the go**amn way before I put my foot in your a$$… I will break your neck! Don’t you ever disrespect me,” Kirk said.

“Did he just hang up the phone? ‘I’ll break your neck.’ Is that a threat?” said Kerrion.

Kerrion posted the exchange on his IG page. Along with the audio, he wrote, “This is why I’m done. No father should speak to their children like this.” He also posted more commentary that you can read in the IG post above.

Kirk has since responded to his son Kerrion posting this private conversation. See his IG post below.

Since then, despite what was said, many people have demonstrated their support for Kirk Franklin including Steve Harvey and Rickey Smiley. And I have to admit that I’m a fan of Kirk Franklin, and when I met him some years ago, I thought he was so nice. That being said, I’m going to try to be as objective and fair as I can.

First of all, I must say that Kerrion was wrong to secretly record his father and secondly, he was wrong to post what was obviously meant to be a private exchange between him and his father. I have to wonder if Kerrion somehow baited his father to get the reaction that he did knowing that he was recording him. And then as Kirk pointed out, he only posted a snippet of the exchange and not the full exchange which included Kirk reaching out the family therapist for help. In his apology video above, he said their relationship has been toxic for some time and based on what was said, that is obviously true. If Kerrion was going to post the exchange, he should have posted the whole exchange, not a snippet. And for the record, this is not the first time their toxic relationship has caused headlines. In 2018, Kerrion even said his father was trying to kill him. Read that HERE. In fact, I think I’ve even read at some point that his son suffers from a mental illness…Don’t get me to lying..but I feel like I’ve read that or heard that somewhere…I could be wrong though….

Now, that being said (written), let me get into this a bit deeper. Let me start off by stating that I’m not a parent. I’ve seen various Facebook posts from parents in which they said that children can take you there sometimes. I can only imagine, but I take them at their word. HOWEVER, Kirk was flowing with those curse words like it was a song that he had written and knew very well. If somebody in his inner circle said he regularly cursed, I wouldn’t be surprised.

The word says, “A good man brings good things out of the good stored up in his heart, and an evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in his heart. For the mouth speaks what the heart is full of.” Luke 6:45

Essentially, what is in you comes out of you…

I’m not saying Kirk Franklin is evil, I’m saying that he sounds like cursing is a somewhat regular part of his vocabulary…

Additionally, in the word, it is stated, “Out of the same mouth come praise and cursing. My brothers and sisters, this should not be.” James 3:10

We all know that Kirk Franklin can shonuff praise God, but using the word “go**amn” is certainly a wrong use of God’s name.

Earlier in James 3, actually, the very first verse states that, “Not many of you should become teachers, my fellow believers, because you know that we who teach will be judged more strictly.” And the section of that chapter is about “taming the tongue.”

As a Gospel megastar with a worldwide platform, Kirk is subject to more scrutiny and rightfully so…

I’m not cancelling Kirk Franklin namely because I’m not a fan of the cancel culture…That being said, I hope he uses this revelation as a barometer to check himself. Does his persona in private match what he presents publicly. No one is perfect that is for sure. But even the everyday Christian without a platform should be demonstrably becoming more and more Christlike in their words and deeds. I have grown in some areas and some areas I have yet to grow. For some reason, I find myself arguing with people at the grocery store lately. I think it’s because it’s my only social outlet in the pandemic 🙁 But I have a mentor who has challenged me on these outbursts. We all need to people who can help us check ourselves before we wreck ourselves…

As Kirk asked for in his apology video, I will pray for him and his family. And I will keep praying for myself too…

After Oprah’s Interview with Prince Harry & Meghan Markle, Interracial Marriage is a Hot Topic!

Hello World,

Were you among the 17. 1 million USA viewers who watched the Oprah interview with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle Sunday or the 11.3 million viewers in the UK on Monday?!!! I am a member of the former group.  I’ve been fascinated with Prince Harry & Meghan Markle’s love story since before they were married. I think I have written about them at least three times on this blog. See those blog posts below:

Why Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s ‘Megxit’ is a Modern-Day ‘Leave and Cleave’ in Action…

7 Reasons Why Prince Harry & Meghan Markle’s Royal Wedding Was the Best Royal Wedding Ever!!!

Why the ‘Good Morning America’ Headline About Meghan Markle and ‘Hope’ for Black Women Wasn’t Offensive To Me…

After their interview with the queen of American television, none other than Oprah Winfrey, the fascination continues…I’m also deeply troubled by what was revealed…namely, the ugly racism that led to Meghan wanting to commit suicide and Prince Harry extricating himself from the monarchy to protect his wife and children – born and unborn. Here in the U.S., we’re now having conversations about passing and colorism. While Meghan likely enjoyed some privileges as a lighter-skinned black woman in the US, her lighter skin seemingly did not afford those same privileges in the U.K.

In the U.K., they are having discussions about what it means to be royal and does race have anything to do with it. And to see the hysterical reaction to the interview such as the continued and weird vitriol that that Piers Morgan spews whenever Meghan Markle is mentioned, it’s no wonder that Megxit was warranted. He should be leaving Good Morning Britain and his former co-host Alex Beresford was right to challenge his obsession with hating her…

See the exchange below…It’s sooo crazy…

Even Christian media in the UK is in a tizzy about it all…Premier Christianity magazine has had to issue an apology for its initial response…See an excerpt below…

Yesterday evening, shortly before the Harry and Meghan interview aired, we published a blog on this page, entitled ‘5 reasons you shouldn’t watch the Meghan and Harry interview’.

We have now removed this article and would like to unreservedly apologise for it, for the offence and hurt it has caused, and the damage it has done to the witness of Christians. We were wrong to publish it.

Although we initially only apologised for one phrase within the piece, we now understand the problems with the blog were far wider than one phrase. It was not a helpful piece of commentary, but instead has resulted in understandable anger and pain, especially for those who have experienced racism.

My own personal view on the Harry and Meghan interview can be read here: “7 lessons Christians can learn from Meghan and Harry’s interview“. While I know this cannot repair the damage already done, my hope is this new article will prove to be a much more helpful contribution to these issues than what was published before.

In the wake of this time period of racial reckoning that has spread across the pond, I thought I would share this article below…

“What Does the Bible Say about Interracial Marriage?” by Emma Danzey

In a time with a large number of questions in regard to racism, one might ask if it is ok for a man and a woman of different ethnicities to marry? What does the Bible say about interracial marriage? I recently was at a small gathering and a white woman who hosted the event was telling us her hardship when people basically asked her straight-up if she got pregnant before marriage when they noticed that her kids were not of the same skin tone. Her husband is from Africa, and she is from North Carolina.

What Defines Race?

No matter what a person believes on the matter of interracial marriage, I want to begin with the fact that we are all made in the image of God (Genesis 1:27). I chose to write this article because I love to research Scriptures on topics to gain understanding. I personally know and care for a variety of interracial married couples who love the Lord.  One of my dearest friends is an African American woman who is married to a Caucasian man. Another of my closest friends is Greek, and she is about to marry a man of Puerto Rican and Dominican descent. I tell her that they are going to have beautiful “Puerto-Greek-an” babies one day.

But let us not stop there. I am friends with a Caucasian woman married to an African American man. I also have a friend who is a Japanese woman married to a Caucasian man; they have three beautiful children and serve in ministry together. I know Romanians married to Americans, and a Pilipino woman married to a Southern man. Do they all experience hardships in different ways for their choice to marry one another? Yes. Would they have chosen a different path? No.

Popular Author and Speaker Beth Moore Announces That She is No Longer a Southern Baptist!

Hello World,

Quite honestly, I don’t know much about popular author and speaker Beth Moore, but I do know that she is an influential Christian leader. That’s why I was surprised to learn that she is no longer affiliating herself with the Southern Baptists. See the article below…

“Bible teacher Beth Moore, splitting with Lifeway, says, ‘I am no longer a Southern Baptist’” by Bob Smietana

For nearly three decades, Beth Moore has been the very model of a modern Southern Baptist.

She loves Jesus and the Bible and has dedicated her life to teaching others why they need both of them in their lives. Millions of evangelical Christian women have read her Bible studies and flocked to hear her speak at stadium-style events where Moore delves deeply into biblical passages.

Moore’s outsize influence and role in teaching the Bible have always made some evangelical power brokers uneasy, because of their belief only men should be allowed to preach.

But Moore was above reproach, supporting Southern Baptist teaching that limits the office of pastor to men alone and cheerleading for the missions and evangelistic work that the denomination holds dear.

“She has been a stalwart for the Word of God, never compromising,” former Lifeway Christian Resources President Thom Rainer said in 2015, during a celebration at the Tennessee Performing Arts Center in Nashville that honored 20 years of partnership between the Southern Baptist publishing house and Moore. “And when all is said and done, the impact of Beth Moore can only be measured in eternity’s grasp.”

Then along came Donald Trump.
